About Fancy Violet Diamonds

Although sometimes lumped together with fancy purple or fancy blue diamonds, fancy violet diamonds are actually a unique class of diamond that was discovered only 20 years ago. The coloring of this extraordinary stone can fall anywhere on the spectrum between blue and purple, and it will often possess modifying colors of blue or grey.

Because so few of these diamonds have ever been discovered, it has been impossible to closely compare purple, blue and violet diamonds; so it is unclear what causes their stunning dark tones. Most diamond experts agree that the cool tones of a violet diamond are a result of hydrogen impurities in the diamond structure.
