The Design Process

You’ll be amazed by how easy and simple it is to design a custom piece with VMK Diamonds. Our only aim is to bring you an end result that will leave you breathless-- the perfect blend of your passion, style, and of course, your budget.

This is no solo operation. You will be included in every step of the design process, working hand-in-hand with some of the best jewelry designers and gemologists in the industry. Nothing gives us more satisfaction than our customers walking away with stunning pieces of jewelry that are uniquely theirs.

Our promise to you is that you will walk away thrilled with everything about your new jewelry.  If there’s anything about the finished product that you don’t love, we will adjust it or do it over without thinking twice.

Inspiration

We start off with YOUR inspiration. It could be an original idea that popped into your head, one so unique that it’s never been done before. It may be a combination of different aspects of other designs and jewelry that you’ve seen. Perhaps it’s a copy of a design that you loved but didn’t fit your budget or color specifications.

Regardless of where the idea is from, the first step is to communicate your vision to our jewelry designers. You can use our electronic form to let us know exactly what you’re looking for by uploading photos, sending us URLs and then describing the piece. You’ll choose your stone colors, metal type and fill out your contact information so that we can get in touch with you (we value your privacy and your information will not be used for any other purpose).

Design

Once we have your form, our designer will contact you to touch base with you in-person. You’ll be given the opportunity to describe what you want, ask any questions and get a price quote. Our designers can also offer their professional opinions to help suggest the little touches that will bring your design to the next level. 

Once we have a clear picture of your vision, we use our state-of-the-art Rhinoceros 3D computer design software to create three-dimensional renderings of your design from multiple angles. These images are sent to you for your approval, so you can see exactly what your finished product will look like. At this stage we can tweak the design with any changes or corrections, until it matches the picture in your head perfectly.

Production

Then the jewelry is finally ready to go into production. We’ll use a wax model of the 3D rendering that we created, and then we’ll use the model to cast the jewelry out of the metal that you chose. Although the casting comes out with a smooth finish, it is still far from the finished product that you will receive.  One of our jewelers with a keen eye for detail will polish the jewelry to a flawless finish. Then our expert setter will step in to meticulously and securely set your hand-selected stones by hand. Finally we will polish the piece to a gleaming sparkle and send it to a GIA laboratory to have it certified.

Approximately 3-4 weeks after you begin the process, you will be the proud owner of a shining and certified one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
